Ok so you finally escaped corporate America, ask yourself a question how will I run my company to keep employees happy and attain a productive work environment?
1. Don’t try and change your employees
Lets face it, half your employees don’t not give a damn about the product or service your selling, they are simply there to pay their bills. No matter how many slogans, posters and t-shirts you try to brainwash them with, if their hearts not in it there’s no convincing them. What you need to focus on is keeping them of facebook and make sure they are doing their work.
2. Don’t run your company like the mafia
Just because an employee of yours decides to quit in order to start his/her own venture or to accept a job that better suits them doesn’t give you the right to deem them a traitor or an act of betrayal. Instead help them grow and develop , advice them on what moves to take rather than making their 401k magically disappear in rage induced vengeance.
3. Don’t be a scrooge, teach them how to get rich like you
There’s this crazy mentality spreading around like a viral flu; wanting all the knowledge of yourself , keeping the secrets to your success in a motion censored security vault so only you can remain wealthy while your employees toil and sweat for you as you reap all the benefits. Explain how your business works and how you make money , show them how to negotiate and close large deals and they will return the favor by applying what you taught them into your business, hence making you more money.
4 Don’t ask for your employees input if you are not going to listen
If you ask for the opinions of your employees please value them, granted you will get some well lets just call them un-usable ideas/opinions but don’t just dismiss them or throw it in the trash especially if you asked for them.
5 Do not Disturb: No work on vacation time
Your employees are already working round the clock like ants all year long, bringing those dreadful manila folders home, taking calls at dinner time , even to the extent of walking the dog just to send emails via blackberry in order not to piss off their significant other. Don’t bother them right before boarding to forward that email to you as soon as they land in Hawaii . When they are no vacation let them relax, it will improve their performance when they return, which in turn benefits you.
